A row counter for PDF patterns
Most modern patterns are PDFs you read on a phone or tablet. The problem is the app switch: counter, then PDF, then back. Here are four ways to keep your place, and when each one works.
Four ways to follow a PDF pattern
| Method | Good for | Weak spot |
|---|---|---|
| Paper copy and tally marks | Short patterns | Easy to lose count; needs printing |
| Phone counter plus the PDF in another app | Simple rows | Switching apps; no link between the two |
| PDF annotation (highlighter) | One-off projects | Slow; marks pile up; hard to undo |
| Row counter linked to the PDF (Follow-line) | Long or lace patterns | Needs a PDF with real text and row labels |
What to look for in a counter
- Undo. A mis-tap should be reversible without a hunt for the right number.
- Big targets. You are holding needles and might not be looking at the screen.
- Saved state. The count must survive a phone call and a restart.
- PDF in view. The highlighted row should sit next to the button.
- Privacy. A pattern is your property; it should not need uploading to count rows.
Try Follow-line
Stitchlight links the counter to the PDF: tap + and the highlight moves to the next row's instructions. See how Follow-line works and what it cannot read, then open the app.
