Follow-line: your pattern highlights the current row
Follow-line reads the text of a PDF pattern, finds the line for each row, and keeps a soft yellow band on the row you are working. Tap + and the band moves.
How it works
- Create a project and attach your pattern PDF.
- Stitchlight reads the PDF's text on your device and groups it into lines.
- It looks for row labels at the start of lines: Row 5, R5, Rnd 5, Round 5, Rows 3-4, or a numbered list like 1. 2. 3.
- The current row's line is highlighted on the page and shown as large text with the previous and next lines for context.
What it handles
- Multi-page PDFs. The view scrolls to the page of the current row.
- Rows written as a range, for example Rows 3-4: both rows share the line.
- Numbered instructions without the word Row.
- Manual fixes: tap any line to link it to a row if the automatic match is wrong.
What it cannot do
Be aware. If the PDF is a scan or a photo of a printed pattern, there is no text to read, and Follow-line says so instead of guessing. Charts drawn as pictures are not parsed. Patterns that describe rows in prose without labels may not match.
Privacy
The PDF is processed on your device and stored in the browser's own database. It is not uploaded anywhere. Backups include the PDF so you can move to another phone.
Tips for better results
- Use a PDF you can select text in. If you can highlight a word with your finger or cursor, it has text.
- Check the count: Stitchlight tells you how many rows it found. If it says 40 and your pattern has 120, link a few by hand.
- For charts, use the counter alone and read the chart in the PDF.

Frequently asked questions
Does Follow-line work with any PDF?
It works with PDFs that contain real text and row labels. Scans and chart images cannot be read.
