k: Knit
Insert the right needle into the front of the next stitch from left to right. This is one of the building-block stitches. Patterns assume you can work it without thinking, and most other abbreviations are built from it.
How to work k
Insert the right needle into the front of the next stitch from left to right. Wrap the yarn counter-clockwise around the right needle, pull the loop through and slide the old stitch off the left needle.
Common mistake
Twisting the stitch by wrapping the yarn the wrong way round; the stitch then sits crossed on the needle.
Effect on your stitch count
It does not change the stitch count by itself.
How it looks in a pattern
